mwbwWebRTC è una tecnologia mwcaopen source nata il 1º giugno 2011 che consente ai mwcqbrowser di effettuare in tempo reale delle mwcgvideochiamate. È basata su mwcwHTML5 e mwdaJavaScript.cite-ref-google-pronta-a-inserire-un-anti-skype-nel-browser-chrome-1-0[1]

La sua inclusione nel mwegWorld Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standard è supportata da mwewGoogle, mwfaMicrosoft, mwfqMozilla e mwfgOpera.

È distribuito sotto la parziale mwgalicenza BSD e il codice si basa su prodotti di mwgqGlobal IP Solutions, azienda che Google ha acquisito nel maggio 2010 per 68 milioni di euro.cite-ref-google-pronta-a-inserire-un-anti-skype-nel-browser-chrome-1-1[1] WebRTC utilizza per l'audio il mwhgcodec mwhwOpus e il codec mwiaVP8 per il video e si sta lavorando per migrare il mwiqplugin di mwigGoogle Talk video chat per il quadro webRTC.cite-ref-google-pronta-a-inserire-un-anti-skype-nel-browser-chrome-1-2[1]

Tuttavia Microsoft ha preferito sviluppare ORTC, una propria versione delle stesse API, iniziando a supportare WebRTC solo nel nuovo browser mwkaEdge, introdotto nel 2015 con mwkqWindows 10.
